The command accepts wildcards for file names. tar - Archive and Compress Files: The 'tar' command creates compressed archives of files and directories. For example, this command doesn't report a match for the string tax file if a carriage return occurs between the words tax and file. When you use this command to search for text in a file that includes carriage returns, you must limit the search string to text that can be found between carriage returns (that is, a string that is not likely to be interrupted by a carriage return). This command doesn't recognize carriage returns. If you specify /c and /n in the same command line, find ignores /n. If you use /c and /v in the same command line, this command displays a count of the lines that don't contain the specified string. To search for a string with wild cards and regex patterns, you can use the FINDSTR command. You can't use wildcards ( * and ?) in the searched string. You can type parameters and command-line options for the find command in any order. To exit the console search use CTRL-X or CTRL-z. Using find is simple, all you need to do is provide a starting point (top of the directory heirarchy) where the search beings. If you omit a file name, this command acts as a filter, taking input from the standard input source (usually the keyboard, a pipe (|), or a redirected file) and then displays any lines that contain string. Find Command find command is a powerful, widely used CLI tool for searching and locating files whose names match simple patterns, in a directory hierarchy. If the string you want to search for contains quotation marks, you must use double quotation marks for each quotation mark contained within the string (for example, """This string contains quotation marks"""). If you use /i, however, the search becomes case insensitive, and it treats a and A as the same character. For example, this command treats the characters a and A differently. ![]() If you don't use /i, this command searches for exactly what you specify for string. Mysql list stored procedures8/11/2023 ![]() Last but not least, SP is a fundamental aspect of database security. It increases efficiency to put the data retrieving and processing at the server end instead of writing the same processing logic in a different syntax provided by all these languages/libs, if the data processing logic is so commonly used. Consider how many different languages/libs there are that we can use to deal with the database. SQL is standard and purely 100% platform independent. And we know a compiled program will run faster. This is somehow quite like the interpreted language execution (at the client end) and the compiled language execution (at the database server end). This is quite different from issuing the same query from the client side, where the query will be parsed by database drivers, analyzed and optimized (if possible) every time the query statement is called. It can be pre-compiled and analyzed by the database server. SP is stored and run directly in the MySQL server. So, to save bandwidth and increase robustness, it is sometimes a good idea to have more processing and logic done on the server side (in particular, the MySQL server) and have less data transferred through the network. In a typical environment, these layers will most likely not reside on one single machine, maybe not even in one network, for larger applications.Īlthough network speed has tremendously increased in the past few years, it is still the slowest and most unreliable compared to other ways of transferring the data (CPU cache, memory, hard disk, etc). The database layer, which handles all database queries, including but not limited to a SELECT query, an INSERT statement, etc. ![]() The PHP layer, which handles all PHP interpretation, does the application logic and generates the PHP part of response. The web server layer, which handles and dispatches user requests and sends back responses to the client layer. It receives user interactions and presents the data in a UI. The client layer, which is normally a web browser. In a typical PHP database web application, there are four layers: There are at least four advantages I can think of to use an SP in a database application.įirstly, it reduces the network traffic and overhead. That workflow works fine in most cases but there is one important aspect of database programming missing: the Stored Procedure. Most of us are quite familiar with the normal setup to build a database application: creating database, creating tables, set up indexes, CRUD the data, issue queries from the client side and do further processing if necessary. SP are also available in other common database servers (Postgre for example) so what we will discuss here can be applied to those as well. The official MySQL document should always be the place for reference. Note: We are not going to cover the full aspect of the SP here. In this tutorial, we will see how to create an SP in MySQL and execute it in MySQL server and in PHP. Put simply, a Stored Procedure ("SP") is a procedure (written in SQL and other control statements) stored in a database which can be called by the database engine and connected programming languages. Types of liars pathological8/11/2023 ![]() Causes of compulsive lying: is it a symptom or a condition?īecause little research has been done on compulsive lying, scientists don’t know if it’s a symptom or a standalone condition. For example, a pathological liar can tell others that they’re related to a famous person, that they were in a life-threatening accident, or tell grandiose stories that challenge the wildest movie scripts. They can make up intricate stories about their past, which can be extremely frustrating for friends, family, and co-workers because they don’t know when to trust them. Meanwhile, pathological liars lie compulsively and for no apparent reason. Under normal circumstances, people who lie do so because they have a motivation, something to be gained from it. Also known as pseudologia fantastica or mythomania, compulsive lying can point to a more severe mental health condition and refers to the habit of deceiving others even though no benefit can be drawn from it. Or, when the hairdresser asks you if you like your new haircut, you half-heartedly answer yes, despite the fact that it’s not at all what you had in mind.Ĭompulsive lying is different. ![]() These are the so-called “white lies” – lies that we don’t enjoy telling, but that are often necessary to avoid an embarrassing situation or to hurt someone’s feelings.įor example, when your friend offers you a meal they cooked themselves, you might tell them it’s delicious even though you didn’t really love it. And yet, the average person tells between one to two lies per day and hears between 10 and 200 lies, most of which are harmless. Growing up, we are taught that we should not tell lies and that honesty is an admirable trait in a human being. Flat tire psi8/11/2023 ![]() When you bring your car in for service, ask them to check the tire pressure most garages will do this at no additional cost. ![]() If you have no known problems with your tires, check your vehicle's tire pressure seasonally or before you head off on a road trip. Is there any maintenance required between intervals? I've built a working nuclear reactor out of wood. I've fixed things on my car that involve removing more than five bolts. I've successfully hung pictures around the house. It depends on where you rank on the Car Talk do-it-yourself scale: The correct tire pressure should be printed right on this particular type of spare. If you have a small, space-saver spare, then the pressure for that tire is probably not the same pressure as your regular tires. Finally, check the spare tire at least once in a while - it would be an unpleasant surprise to find it flat when you need it. Just because three of your tires are at 30 pounds doesn't mean that the fourth tire isn't nearly flat. When you do check your tire pressure, remember to check all four tires. In other words, you can drive to the gas station a few blocks away and ask them to check the pressure, but don't expect to pull off the highway after driving for an hour and expect to get an accurate reading. You can check tire pressure any time of the day, as long as the tires have been sitting for a few hours or haven't been driven for more than a few miles. Cold, in this sense, simply means that your tires are at air temperature. That doesn't mean you need to move to International Falls, Minn., to check your tire pressure. Analog, dial-type gauges or digital gauges tend to be fairly accurate.Īnd when should you check the tire pressure? You should check it when the tire is cold. Some tire gauges, such as the popular pencil-style gauge, are notoriously inaccurate. Once you know the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure, then you need an accurate tire gauge to check the tire pressure. We recommend a high-quality digital or dial-type tire-pressure gauge like this one. This number usually is indicated either on the driver's door pillar, the glove compartment door or sometimes on the gas filler door. Check your owner's manual to find out where to look on your vehicle to find the recommended measurement. The recommended tire pressure is almost always lower than the maximum tire pressure. The number on the tire is the maximum allowable air pressure - not the recommended pressure for that tire when used on your vehicle. If the specs aren't on any door post, check inside the glove compartment (pictured), under the center console cover or in the owner's manual.Ī lot of people check the pressure listed on the tires themselves, but that's actually the wrong place to look. How do you determine the correct tire pressure for your car's tires? So if you last had your tire pressure checked in July, when it was 80 degrees outside, and it's now January - and the temperature is minus 20 - your tires may be underinflated by 10 pounds, which is dangerous. Tire pressure decreases by about 1 pound per square inch for every 10-degree drop in outside air temperature. Why? Because tire pressure also changes with the temperature outside. One sign of low tire pressure is if your tires squeal when cornering.Īnd you need to check your tire pressure even if your tires aren't leaking. Overheating can lead to tread separation - and a nasty accident. As a result, not only will your tires wear prematurely, but they also could overheat. If tire pressure is too low, then too much of the tire's surface area touches the ground, which increases friction between the road and the tire. (Hint: If you notice that every tie you own has coffee on it, check your tire pressure. You'll also feel a decrease in ride comfort. And when your tires are bouncing instead of firmly planted on the road, traction suffers and so do your stopping distances. As a consequence, your car will bounce around on the road. If tire pressure is too high, then less of the tire touches the ground. Incorrect tire pressure also will affect your comfort, fuel economy and tire life. And in the worst-case scenario, improper tire pressure can lead to tire failure - and a serious accident. Incorrect tire pressure will compromise cornering, braking and stability. Next to the brakes, the tires are the most important safety devices on your car. Having the proper tire pressure is a crucial safety issue. Should I do this service when it's recommended? The required service involves checking the tires' pressure with a pressure gauge, at least monthly, if not more frequently. ![]() Tire pressure is a measure of the amount of air in a vehicle's tires, in pounds per square inch. Most vehicles list tire pressure requirements on one of the door posts, most often the driver's. Micro mesh gutter screens8/11/2023 Still, the quality more than makes up for the initial upfront costs because of the potential for decades of use. Surface tension helmets should only be installed by professionals and are more expensive than other styles of gutter guards. These helmets are the gold standard for gutter guards due to their low-maintenance and incredibly long-lasting durability. Gutter Helmet, our top-reviewed gutter guard company of 2023, offers a surface tension helmet designed to hang over the gutters, protecting them from debris while only letting water fall into the gutter itself. Depending on the company, the mesh screens come in a number of different colors to match your roof or existing gutter styles. The screens are durable and long-lasting and can be DIYed, but are more commonly installed by professionals. These steel or aluminum micro-meshes will filter out leaves, twigs and larger debris. The most common and economical professional gutter guards are mesh screens. The foam inserts are easy to replace in sections which makes regular cleaning and maintenance straightforward, but these products are not designed to last and disintegrate in a few short years. The foam is simple to install: homeowners cut the foam to the desired dimension and then insert the pieces into the gutter. Foam Insertsįoam inserts offer another easy and affordable option for DIY-ers hoping to protect their gutters from debris. However, with affordability comes a reduction in quality-PVC gutter covers do not last long, especially in harsher environments where branches or hail may easily cause damage. Because these guards simply snap to fit on almost all styles of gutter, the products are easy for a DIY-er to use. PVC covers are an incredibly economical way to protect your gutter from clogging. The top five companies we covered above all offer one of two types-mesh screens or surface tension helmets-but for those homeowners ready to install their own gutter guards there are also PVC covers and foam inserts. Gutter guards come in four main types and styles differentiated by ease of installation, cost and materials. Communication phantasmic8/11/2023 ![]() A product of industrialisation, mass communications and the revolutions in France and the United States, it reached its height with the political unification of Germany and of Italy in the later 19th century. Modern nationalism, which insists both on the political autonomy of a specific territory, and its superiority over others, is a very recent phenomenon. As Charles Corm, a charmer and a chancer, as well as Ford Motor Company’s sole representative in Syria, bluntly put it in the July 1919 issue of his short-lived nationalist journal La Revue Phénicienne: ‘We want this nation, because it has always taken precedence in all the pages of our history.’ The argument worked: from 1920, Greater Lebanon was administered as a separate state within the French Mandate. To provide a proper prototype and parallel for modern Lebanon, these Lebanists insisted that the Phoenicians were always a separate, single people or even nation, united by geography, culture, religion and a common identity. It was central to their ideology that they were not Arabs: ‘There are no camels in Lebanon’ as the slogan still goes. Portraying the Phoenicians as champions of free enterprise, much like themselves, the Lebanists argued that these ancient Phoenician roots gave the Lebanese a Western, Mediterranean-focused identity, very different from the Muslim culture of the broader Syrian region, which they saw as distasteful and uncivilised. ![]() A local candidate presented itself: the Phoenicians, the ancient traders who had founded the coastal cities, sailed the length of the Mediterranean and beyond, and invented the alphabet that we still use today. The nation-state might have been new in the Middle East, but the Lebanists knew that nationalist movements needed historical legitimation, a common past on which to build a common polity. These ‘Lebanists’ emphasised the natural symbiosis between the mountain and the coast: for them, the proposed new country was already a coherent whole it just needed a distinctive history to justify its political autonomy. In 1919, with all the Ottoman territories on the negotiating table, a group of local Christian, francophone businessmen and intellectuals recognised an opportunity to expand this upland enclave to include the wealthy ports in a new state of ‘Greater Lebanon’. Nonetheless, since 1861 they had been governed together under the Turks as a separate administrative district from the coastal cities of Beirut, Tyre and Sidon, which were largely inhabited by Sunni Muslims. The Maronites and the Druze had a history of warfare and little in common. The French Mandate of Syria included a strip of prosperous Mediterranean ports backing on to the rural highlands of Mount Lebanon, the traditional home of the Maronites, who are Eastern Catholics in communion with the Vatican, and the Druze, whose beliefs combine Islamic teachings with elements from other Eurasian religious traditions. European powers scrambled to carve up the region in their own, relatively new, model of nation-states, initially under British or French supervision. In the aftermath of the First World War, the Ottoman Empire that had ruled the Levant for 400 years collapsed. ![]() Despite claims by various partisans of Lebanese, British and Irish nationalism to enlist the Phoenicians as their ancient progenitor, the Phoenicians never existed as a self-conscious community, let alone a nascent nation. ![]() Take the ancient Phoenicians, enlisted in support of the nationalist histories of Lebanon, Britain and Ireland, and in some cases seriously distorted by them. And in return, history is called upon to justify nationalism itself, as well as the existence of particular nation-states Eric Hobsbawm once said: ‘History is to nationalism what the poppy is to the opium addict.’ All this gives modern nationalism an extraordinary power to shape – and misshape – the practice and understanding not only of modern history, but even of antiquity. Modern nationalism took history from the province of the wealthy gentleman amateur, as nationalism’s focus on literacy and organised education professionalised and democratised the past. Modern nationalism created history as we know it today: what we learn in school, what we study at university, what we read at home is all shaped by the forms and norms of our nation-states.
